OneFiveEight Expo:02 / Herbal Sessions

Monday 20th – Saturday 25th May, Islington Mill, Salford

From Monday 20th May OneFiveEight will start their week long residency at Islington Mill in Salford. Expo:02 will take place in the ground floor exhibition space, featuring a varied range of work from the collective.

OneFiveEight Expo:02 Flier

After the success of Expo:01 earlier in the year, the collective are keen to continue their push to promote unrecognised creativity from across the North West. OneFiveEight exhibitions aim to stimulate the visitors with a range of audio and visual disciplines. Expect darkroom photography, street art styled paste ups, digital pieces, hand-drawn illustrations and crafted installations.

Expo:02 Schedule

Monday 20th May – Exhibition start

On Monday 20th May the collective will be setting up the exhibition in the ground floor gallery at Islington Mill studios in Salford. If you’d like to get involved, all you need to do is turn up between 3pm and 8pm. Please bring some kind of black and white pictures with you to help us decorate the space. We’ll be blending live drawn elements with your found imagery in a huge street art inspired collage. Members of the one69a screen printing collective will be helping us by providing live printed elements to add to the design.

21st – 24th May – If you’re in the Mill, have a gander!

Throughout the rest of the week the exhibition will be open to those who are in the Mill for any of thier scheduled events. Please note Islington Mill will not be open especially for the Expo:02 event in between these dates .

3pm, Saturday 25th May – Expo:02 Closing Party

On Saturday 25th May from 3pm we’ll be holding the exhibition closing party. Free drinks will be supplied from our good friends over at Old J Spiced Rum, plus artwork and merchandise will be available to purchase on the day.

If you’d like to get involved with the artwork, please bring black and white pictures to help us finish the group collaboration piece started earlier in the week.

10pm, Saturday 25th May – Herbal Sessions

Herbal Sessions features many of the OneFiveEight collective under their DJ pseudonyms. Come and join the collective at the ideal post exhibition party, and what’s even better is, it’s in the room next door!

All the Herbal Sessions regulars will be throwing down beats. Collectively spanning genres whilst pushing boundaries; a Herbal Sessions event will never disappoint those who like to burn holes in their heals and enjoy a little sleep deprevation.

Guest VJ

Special guest VJ Samina Bukhari will be combining footage taken in the exhibition throughout the night. Samina is a visual artist from Manchester. She works with an abundance of media ranging from body painting, animation and illustration, to film making. She intertwines these visual elements to form a distinctive look to her work.

A collection of her short films were played at Outlook festival in 2009. After sharing them with a VJ whom was already playing, she was given the opportunity to exhibit at the festival in Croatia. She was then invited back a year latter to play as a VJ at the festival. After being spotted by some local Manchester DJs she found her place in the VJing world and went on to work for some of the most prestigious events and sound systems in the area. These include PARKLIFE FESTIVAL, HIT AND RUN, WAREHOUSE PROJECT and HERBAL SESSIONS. Proud of the response she has received with her films Samina is ever more eager to create a niche that personifies her practice.
