Prometheus

Prometheus just another Alien film or something completely different?

I’m looking forward to Ridley Scott’s new sci-fi epic ‘Prometheus’, but is it going to be any good? Let’s face it, after the brilliance of Scott’s 1979 ‘Alien’ nothing has come close to being a classic in the Alien franchise. You can credit James Cameron’s 1986 sequel ‘Aliens’ in being a well made, trigger-happy, homage to the original film, but that’s not what I’m looking for from ‘Prometheus’.

Over the past few years it has felt like CGI Aliens have been popping up in any film that will have them. Films like ‘Alien Space jockeyResurrection’ (Jean-Pierre Jeunet 1997) and Aliens vs Predator (Paul W.S. Anderson 2004) have made no effort to conceal the bone chilling characters, and build tension like the original film. Scott created a sense of claustrophobia that gave a sense of terror ten times as big as any computer generated monster in all it’s glory.

Scott has stated that the film is “not an Alien movie” but if he does as well with this film as he did with the original, bring it on.
