Sounds From The Other City 2018

We are very happy to announce that this year we will be back at Sounds From The Other City.

At last year’s festival, we brought a colourful carnival of monsters to the Regent Trading Estate at Salfords finest festival. In 2018 you can expect bigger and better things from OneFiveEight…

Sounds From The Other City 2018

This year the OneFiveEight crew will be hosting the events at Bexley Square. We’ve programmed a full schedule including well know acts, local heros all glued together with the usual members of the crew spinning tunes inbetween.

Kxngs

London (via Swindon) DJ/producer Kxngs announced his arrival in 2016 with the 5-track EP ‘Earth Sign’ and has since been on the OneFiveEight collective’s radar. The follow up EP in 2017 ‘Air Sign’ has seen Kxngs signed by Tru Thoughts Records, a label that is close to our hearts.

With an extensive back catalogue that includes a release on the LA collective Soulection’s imprint (as Kings in 2012) – as well as self-released albums & EPs that can all be found on his Bandcamp page – the 25-year-old now Brixton resident has been winning admirers on his own terms ever since a degree in Sound Arts at the University Of The Arts London offered him an escape from a year living homeless on the city’s streets.

The scope of Kxngs work draws on global travels, particularly Africa, as well as Deepak Chopra’s ‘The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success’ – a book that Kxngs cites as having helped him “gain enlightenment and self-awareness, helping to not only focus on everyday life but also my creativity”. His sound draws on Afrobeat, Kuduro, Hip-Hop, Trap and further influences from South America & Asia. This passion for exploring world cultures and to base his musical projects on his experiences with them informs all his work, and through basing his musical themes on different areas of the world Kxngs seeks to manifest his dreams and become author of his own story.

OVA

Ova blend atmospheric lo-fi synthesisers with rumbling bass lines and deep kicks. Minimalist production provides the perfect understated backdrop for Lizzie Vince’s hushed vocal melodies to weave through songs as intimate as they are ethereal. Ova have played venues such as Band on the Wall, Deaf Institute, and Roundhouse. Catch them at SFTOC and let them lull you into a hazy slumber.

Miasma

Miasma are a Manchester based 6 piece groove-oriented psych-soul outfit. Slick licks and popping horns weave between a strong bass driven rhythm section and a vibrant arrangement of female-led vocals, generating a psychedelic funk.

Once in a blue moon planetary alignments are said to lead to local miasmas: concentrations of funky air and strange vapors.

These miasmas are then blown on the wind and enter the body through pores in the skin,
a contagious power … that has an independent life of its own.

Once inside the body they disrupt the balance, improving your interplanetary funksmanship.

So kick back and breathe deep, while we lay it on your eardrums….
